🪜 Who Are You Becoming?
Apr 29, 2025
“We are not what we know but what we are willing to learn.” – Mary Catherine Bateson
We grow daily and focus so much on what we're doing and how to complete what's next on the to-do list that we ask many questions. What is expected of me? Am I fulfilling what I set out to do? What role am I playing today?
But every once in a while, it’s powerful to pause and ask:
“Who am I becoming in this season of my life?”
Behind every task, goal or decision, a deeper truth unfolds. We are always becoming something. When we don’t consciously choose who that is, life—or others—choose for us.
This week’s blog offers a reflective invitation to explore your current season of becoming and gently course-correct if necessary. Remember, only if necessary!
Why Does Identity Matter Amid Your Growth?
The answer is easy. You are not just your role, your title, your productivity, or even your relationships. You are a dynamic, evolving human being who grows with every step you take.
When we become disconnected from that truth, we often:
🧱Feel stuck or lost
🔥Burnout from trying to meet external expectations
💨Drift away from our purpose or authenticity
😓Struggle with decisions that once felt clear.
Pausing and asking “Who am I becoming?” helps realign us with our values, voice, and direction.
Five Gentle Reflections to Explore Your Becoming
Here are some gems of wisdom and a journaling exercise to help you explore your becoming and growth.
1. What’s Changing Within You Right Now?
💎 Growth isn’t always dramatic. Often, it arrives quietly, subtly and gradually. You may find yourself speaking up more at work. You may be taking time to seek stillness by reflecting more than usual. Or you may find yourself with a shift in priorities and seeking change. The point is: Growth is happening—even if it’s not yet visible.

2. What Are You Learning to Let Go Of?
💎 Becoming is not only about adding—it’s about releasing. Sometimes we have to acknowledge and review our roles, identities and expectations.
📝 “What do I need to release or what do I need to release from?”
“Sometimes you don’t feel the weight of something you’ve been carrying until you feel the weight of its release.” – Unknown
3. What Kind of Energy Are You Carrying Forward?
💎 We all know that not every experience defines us, but it does shape us. Which parts will you choose to take forward? What have you learned and what wisdom have you gained from struggles and hardship? What newfound confidence has come from the healing of old traumas and pain? What boundaries have you set as a result of anxiety, mental health difficulties, or burnout?
📝 “What has life been trying to teach me recently—and have I listened?”
4. How Do You Want to Feel in This Next Season?
💎 This one may be new for most of us. We often hear about setting goals, but have you tried to set feelings instead? What do you wish to feel more of? Is it to feel grounded, connected, creative, brave or something else? Let those guide your decisions. Becoming is not just about what you do—it’s about how you feel whilst you do it!

5. What Version of You Are You Ready to Meet?
